LUCK BY CHANCE....the review...

This must watch movie "LUCK BY CHANCE" unravels the intricate fabric of BOLLYWOOD,err hindi film industry layer by layer delicately yet sophisticatedly...Though the movie title is about "luck" ,"chance" etc but this delightful zoya akhtar movie crafts each of its scene in such minute details and perfectinism that chance factor is thrown miles away..

The story meanders around the two chief protagonists,Farhan Akhtar and Konkana Sen Sharma who want to make it big in the big bad world of Bollywood...The movie showcases their journey ;albeit in dimensionally opposite directions; yet well lubricated by the different aspects of the film indusrty...While Farhan, wanting to become the typical Bollywood hero, learns everything-acting ,dancing, fighting, etc apart from being the manipulative smooth talker who knows how to get his way while Konkona goes through the ever eternal casting couch, recommendations rigors when doing itsy bitsy roles or parallel ones in B grade production houses..

A rags to riches story of a rising star, the theatre versus cinema clash, the star sons/daughters/brothers dilemma, the ripping of western dvds to perfection, the superstitions associated with film making, the fodder of gossip magazines, the asperity of a screen test,etc....The Zoya Akthar script has it all ,in details and in sync..

The gags are plentiful...And each one while evoking a laugh also stirs the heart somewhere....like Mac grim and poise while saying the famous "pure pachaas hazaar " Sholey dialogue ,Farhan saying "hello" to a impassive Diya mirza ,or the Rishi Kapoor describing Dimple Kapadia as "crocodile in the chiffon saris"...The dialogues are crisp and candid...

Performance wise; Farhan "rocks on " again and delivers an honest and ernest one while Konkona is a powerhouse who make her complex character come alive with ease...They are ably supported by Rishi Kapoor as the hilarious veteran producer "Rommy Rolly" ,Dimple Kapadia as the stern superstar mom, Juhi chawla(though a little wasted) as the supportive wife,Isha Shravani as the not so bright star kid on the block and even the "overconfident" yet failed actor and wannable director Sanjay kapoor :everyone strike the right note....And HRITHIk roshan as the shallow superstar deserves a special mention...Even the fleeting cameos by the biggies of the industry leave a lasting impression...

The only thing that works against it is its pace...Its very slow but then pace is the price one has to pay for perfectionism...No wonder Aamir Khan movies are always so long...
Overall the talented Akhtars desevers all the kudus and hope their AKTHARNAMA continues...

UGLY n PAGLI..

99 slaps = 1 kiss

That's the unusual tag line of the film...So if the kiss is from the hot Mallika Sherawat,it sounds real mouth watering, isnt it...One can easily tolerate the 99 slaps for the elusive kiss...All these thoughts were going in my mind when i was buying the first day first show ticket of UGLY and PAGLI....

And when i came out of the theatre, i was'nt disappointed and had got the kisses from Ranvir Shorey...Now don't get me gay,but this dude playing dumb was superb...His ever eternal vulnerable face is so believable that u actually feel those slaps...The scenes where he wears a petticoat and rides a cycle putting his bottom to utmost risk,or where he walks down wearing the stiletto heels or his 'fart'inating experience in the lift leaves u in splits...

And finally when he gets his girl and along with the kiss, u think its fair enough..He deserves it hands down...Now what about our sexy Mallika ? She is hot and cool at the same time,'masters' her act well as she tries to enslave our poor dude...check her 'outer ' garments in a dare which she does for Ranvir....But its the emotional Mallika who sounds too screechy...Please we dont need her sobbing and being teary eyed but want her to be hot ,sadistic who dominates her lover...

This flick is inspired from "my sassy girl" as it says so in the title credits(at least they have the guts to say so)...And the director pulls his own leg in the particular scene in which Ranvier goes to show Mallika's script in some famous producer office and the producer asks for the DVD from which it is inspired, saying no script nowadays is original...I wonder how Pritish Nandy(the producer of this movie) was shown the script..!!!

The direction part is okay, but drags a bit towards the end...The music is average and by the way who listens to the music when u have Maillka gyrating on screen...The movie is a collage of some brilliant scenes, but the thread connecting them could have been stronger..But i am not complaining...i have got my kiss..
